Blue Ridge Mountains Shenandoah River
Life is old there older than the trees
Younger than the mountains growing like breeze

거의 천국과 같은 나의 고향 아! 웨스트버지니아여
불루리지산(맥)과 쉐난도우강이 있는 곳
그곳에서의 (인간들의) 삶은 오래되었어요 (즉 우리 인간들이 정착한지는)
(물론) 나무보다는 더 오래되었지만
산들바람과 함께 호흡하는
많은 산들보다는 오래되지 않았죠

그곳 고향의 시골길로 나를 데려다 주오
나는 엄마와 같은 (포근한) 산이 있는 웨스트버지니아 고향으로 말입니다.
시골길이여 나를 고향으로 데려다주오

All my memories gather round her
Miner's lady stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty painted on the sky
Misty taste of moon shine
Teardrop in my eye

맑은 물은 거의 본적이 없는 광부의 아내!
그녀에 대한 온갖 나의 추억이 떠오르네
어둠과 먼지로 채색된 하늘 !
안개 자욱한 달빛!
그 모습이 떠오르면 어느듯 내 눈에는 눈물이 고여요
(아마 어머니가 광부인 것 같기도 하고 그 좋은 Blue ridge 산맥과
산하를 더럽히는 자연파괴현상에 대해서 사회에 항변하는 듯한 내용인 것 같기도 합니다)

이른 아침에 어머니가 내게 전화하는 시간에 엄마의 목소리를 들었죠
라디오를 듣고 있으니 머나먼 내 고향이 문득 생각이 나는군요
(고향과 엄마가 너무나 보고파서 이제)
차를 운전해 내려가는 중에 문득 이런 생각이 드는군요
"내가 이 고향으로 진작 찾아 왔어야 했는데 어제 말이야, 어제"
(왜 진작 찾아오지 않았을까)
